Read to Ride

The 2019, Read to Ride summer reading program has completed for the year. We would like to thank all the students, schools, libraries and organizations who participated and made the program a success. We appreciate the community support and we are proud to have engaged over 350 students to read over 2,580 books this summer!

Check back next spring for more information about the 2020, Read to Ride Summer Reading Program.

General Program Information:

Read to Ride is an engaging summer reading program that encourages students aged 5 to 15 to read during summer vacation. Having just completed its 21st year, the program runs from May-August.  This year's sponsors include Dependable Cleaners, The Patriot Ledger, Farina’s Bicycle Center, Giant Boston and Bikes Not Bombs.  Prizes include bicycles, books, sporting goods, gift cards and much more.

In 2018, the program successfully engaged students to read more than 2,800 books and gave away 12 bicycles and many other prizes to participants. Dependable Cleaners President Christa Hagearty, who founded the program, said: “In this age where children are glued to tablets and computers, I believe more than ever in encouraging reading and getting kids outside.” She estimates that more than 85,000 books have been read by children who have participated in Read to Ride over the past 20+ years.

Congratulations 2019 Bike Winners!
