Memorial Day Weekend in Boston

Memorial Day is often seen as a two-for-one holiday. Primarily, it’s a day that honors those who died in wars defending our country and our freedom. But it is also the unofficial start to summer!  Blend both into your weekend by honoring our heroes and welcoming summer.

Start your commemoration early this year by visiting the annual Garden of Flags, planted by the Massachusetts Military Heroes organization. They’ll plant 37,000 flags in front of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on Boston Common to commemorate each of the Massachusetts service members who gave their lives fighting for their freedom since the Revolutionary War. The memorial will be up from Wednesday, May 22 – Monday, May 27.

If you’re in Boston Common with your family, be sure to ride on the carousel or play on the Tadpole Playground (near Frog Pond).

If the weather’s nice and you want to keep strolling, cross Charles Street from Boston Common and enter the Public Garden. Memorial Day typically marks the beginning of rose bloom season, where the roses planted all along the Public Garden begin to intensely bloom.

Score last minute tickets to Boston Calling! See your favorite artists perform at the Harvard Athletic Complex Friday and Saturday.

Spend Memorial Day with the Red Sox as they play the Cleveland Indians at 4:05.

Take advantage of Free Admission at the MFA from 10AM – 4:45 PM. There will be plenty of family activities, as well as plenty of special exhibits. You can also get free admission to ICA Boston, which is the perfect excuse to visit the South Boston Waterfront.

And that’s just a few of the awesome events in the city this weekend! We hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Memorial Day Weekend!
