Our Favorite: Ice Cream Spots in Boston

Share

With the temperature beginning to rise and the unofficial start to summer right around the corner, what better way to cool off after a long day of sitting in a stifling hot office than with an ice cream cone? We’ve compiled all the top ice cream spots in the Greater Boston area to help you choose the best way to end your day. We get that your ice cream cone might melt and drip on your crisp work shirt, so bring it to us if that happens and we’ll help make your shirt look as good as new!

  1. Toscanini’s Ice Cream, Cambridge: Open since 1986, this crowd favorite is not only known for delivering delicious standards like vanilla and chocolate—their original flavors B3 (made with brown sugar, brown butter and butter brownies) and Khuflee (with intense ingredients of cardamom, almonds and pistachios) are popular picks.
  2. FoMu, Tremont Street: Looking for a non-dairy ice cream alternative that’s as creamy as gelato? Look no further than FoMu! These sweet scoops may be plant- and coconut milk-based, but they are a tough competition for the creamy gelato we know and love. Their flavors are made completely from scratch, and the ingredients are locally sourced and free of additives, preservatives and chemicals.
  3. Honeycomb Creamery, Cambridge: By keeping their menu small (5 “classic” flavors and 5 rotating seasonal flavors), Honeycomb’s imaginative flavors are guaranteed to be made with the highest quality ingredients. All of their milk and heavy cream come from well-cared for Jersey cows from Mapleline Farm in Hadley, and they pasteurize their own base, making each flavor completely unique. Check out their standards like Malted Vanilla and Salted Caramel Crackle or seasonal options Thai Tea and Matcha Pistachio!
  4. J.P. Licks: This beloved Boston chain changes their menu on the first of every month, so you’ll never run out of choices!  Their May offerings include Chocolate Chip Cheesecake, Cookies ‘n’ Dough and Butter Cashew, as well as vegan and dairy-free options!
  5. Lizzy’s, Waltham and Cambridge: Can’t decide what flavor you’re in the mood for? With 50 homemade flavors to choose from, Lizzy’s has you covered! From Mocha Almond to Ginger to the original Charles River Crunch, there’s a flavor for every mood.
  6. Tipping Cow, Somerville: According to their website, “Tipping Cow is founded upon the simple idea that food is an outlet for creativity, and should be treated as such.” With their ten rotating and eight seasonal flavors, there is ample opportunity to be creative. Tipping Cow is a completely peanut- and tree nut- free store, and some of their most popular flavors are Cannoli and Blueberry Ginger!
