Laundromat in South Quincy: Open Seven Days on Quincy Avenue

Share

The laundromat in South Quincy is at 320 Quincy Avenue, in the same building as our dry cleaning counter. It runs seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. That last part is why most people find us. If your evening starts after a Red Line ride back to Quincy Adams, a laundromat that closes at six does you no good.

Dependable Cleaners has been here since 1944. Fourth generation, family-owned, certified women-owned. Two of our twelve stores have a laundromat inside. This is one. The other is on Dorchester Avenue.

What can you do at the laundromat in South Quincy?

You can wash, dry and fold it yourself on large-capacity, high-speed machines, paid through an electronic paycard instead of a coin slot. You can also hand the bag across the counter and pick it up done.

Large capacity is the whole point. A queen comforter. A week of towels for a family of four. A duvet that only fits a home washer if you fold it in half first. Those are the loads that send people out of the house looking for a laundromat, and the machines here are sized for them. So are the dryers, which finish a comforter in one cycle.

If you would rather not stand over it, wash, dry and fold runs out of the same building. It is washed with biodegradable detergent, dried, folded and bagged.

When is the South Quincy laundromat open?

The laundromat is open Monday through Sunday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The dry cleaning counter in the same building keeps different hours: Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Two schedules, one address. Worth checking before you drive over. If you are dropping a suit and starting a wash on the same trip, come while both are open. If it is only laundry, Sunday night at eight works.

The ozone system, and what it does

Every washer here runs the Sano Wash Ozone system. It puts a measured dose of ozone into the drum on each cycle. That sanitizes the wash, cuts wear on the fabric, and lowers the energy the machine needs.

Ozone works cold. That is the short version of why it helps a garment last. Cotton that never gets cooked keeps its color and its shape longer. The GreenEarth technology we use on the dry cleaning side comes out of the same thinking. GreenEarth builds its process around a silicone-based cleaning solution that breaks down into sand, water and carbon dioxide. It is gentle on the garment and 100% odor-free when you carry it home.

A Quincy Avenue stop, and the street around it

The store is at 320 Quincy Avenue, Quincy MA 02169. The number is 617-770-9232. This is a drive-to shop, and that suits the end of the city it sits in. South Quincy is houses, two-families and condos, full of people who park once and do three errands.

The T is close. Quincy Adams sits at Burgin Parkway and Centre Street with a 2,538-space garage, and parking there is nine dollars a day. Bus routes 230 and 238 stop at the station. That station was called South Quincy until 1867, before it took the president’s name.

Then there is the question of what to do with clothes you are finished with. Quincy keeps textile recycling bins in the DPW upper lot and in every school yard, open around the clock. They take clothing, shoes, bedding, drapery and small rugs, and the items can be ripped or stained. You can also call one business day ahead and leave textiles at the curb on your regular trash day. City curbside collection runs Monday through Friday for one- to eight-family homes and condominiums.

Massachusetts has banned textiles from the trash since November 1, 2022. So the bin at the school is where the bag goes. We handle the other end of it: bring hangers and garment bags back to any store and we reuse them.

What if you would rather skip the trip?

Then skip it. Free home and office pickup and delivery covers Quincy in full, with no minimum order. The same route covers Braintree, Milton, Weymouth and Hingham, so a household that moved across the line from one of those towns keeps the same service.

The process is plain. We text the evening before we are in your neighborhood. You reply “Y” before 7 a.m. if you want a stop. The route runs two days a week, Monday and Thursday, or Tuesday and Friday, and clean items come back on the next delivery day. Bedding sometimes takes longer, and we tell you when it will.

Laundry in person on a Sunday, dry cleaning on the truck during the week. Both work off the same account, and both earn VIP Rewards. The Quincy Avenue store also does shirt laundry, linens and bed cleaning, and Style by Dependable for heirloom and signature pieces. Up the road we also do tailoring and alterations in Quincy.
