Dawn Asked: How Can I Remove White Deodorant from My Little Black Dress?

Dawn G. Asked:

“How do I remove white deodorant stains from a black dress? It is handwashable 95% polyester, 5% spandex. I handwashed it with Woolite for black clothing and stains are still present. Any suggestions?
Thank you,
Dawn”

We Answered:

Thank you for your question Dawn. White deodorant stains on your little black dress can be a pain. No worries, we can help keep your dress looking flawless and thankfully you’ll still be able to wear deodorant.

If your clothing is laundry safe, a deodorant stain should come out with just washing. If this does not work it can be for one of two reasons:

Your deodorant is made up of both water (wet side) and oil (dry side) based materials. The oil from your skin mixed with the deodorant and made the stain insoluble to water. The wet-side stain should remove in water. In order to remove the dry-side stain (oil) you will need to use a cleaning solution that does not contain water. Pretreat the area by dabbing it with detergent and let it sit. After about 30 minutes try washing the garment as the care instructions suggest. If your item is not laundry safe we would recommend having a professional cleaner like Dependable Cleaners, spot clean this item to ensure the stain is removed properly without damaging the fabric or fading your garments.
